Everybody knows that nitrogen is the key to getting huge because your muscles will grow bigger when you retain more nitrogen from the protein you eat! Surely you’ve heard the term nitrogen retention many times. It’s what steroids “cause”, and the real reason they work. Basically, the hormone testosterone and all its derivatives, drugs like Dianabol and Deca, help retain, or utilize nitrogen from the protein you eat. And this “retention” is inside the nucleus of the cell which then accelerates several metabolic processes, one of which is increased messenger ribonucleic acid activity which sets into motion actual muscle growth!  However, what a lot of steroid bio-chemists (and thus bodybuilders) don’t know is, nitrogen retention also increases what’s called cAMP, which is a scientific abbreviation for “cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate”, which is a metabolic catalyst that helps to engage over 300 different enzyme reactions. And, as my good friend, dearly departed European Steroid Guru Paul Borresen used to tell me, “enzymes are the new frontier in bodybuilding.” And he may have been right because the unique thing about enzymes, which is vastly different from any other metabolic substrates like vitamins, minerals, etc. is… you can’t take too many, meaning the more of the enzyme present, the better the specific reaction. For example: the enzyme aromatase, which is needed to convert testosterone to estrogen, is why some guys get huge “bitch tits” and other guys don’t… because some people simply have more of this enzyme in their system! And this is why some people use prescription estrogen blockers like Clomid and Arimidex, because they shutdown the aromatase enzyme. Of course, aromatase is an example of an enzyme you don’t want much of, but there are other enzymes you do want more of. One example is “protease” which is an enzyme that metabolizes protein more efficiently. Anyway, all this leads back to cyclic AMP and nitrogen retention and the relationship between the two. And that relationship is… the more nitrogen retention, the more cyclic AMP, the more enzyme reactions in the body, and the bigger and more shredded you become! Now, we already know increased nitrogen will build muscle “lickity-split” so let’s delve a little deeper into the shredding aspect of having sky-high nitrogen levels. As you already know, cyclic AMP is a metabolic stimulator and it is actually used in a number of weight loss products that help speed the metabolic rate. So that’s one way increased nitrogen retention gets you shredded! The other way increased nitrogen levels get you shredded is by good old-fashioned thermogenesis, which was popularized 28 years ago by the E/C/A Stack (Ephedrine, Caffeine and Aspirin). Simply put, thermogenesis is the conversion of excess fat into heat… and thus fat is dissipated from the body! And scientific studies too numerous to mention, clearly show that increased nitrogen retention causes slight increases in body temperature which is a sure sign that the process of thermogenesis is taking place. Now, what a lot of people don’t know is, Dan’s original steroid book was actually a “dealers book” meaning it was designed to promote the use of steroids… it had steroid dealer’s names and addresses in the “freaking” book for the whole world to see, including, of course, the Government! And gee, what a coincidence that Dan had his company listed in the book! Think about how much fun Dan was having back in the day (1983), going to his mail box everyday and finding thousands of dollars in steroid orders. Anyway, the story goes that Dr. Syrov got a hold of Dan’s book and wrote him and told him about a non-hormonal classification of anabolic steroids he was researching called ecdysterones, or more specifically, Turkesterone which is the most potent form of the ecdysterone classification, which are actually plant hormones!  Turkesterone works by increasing ribosomal activity. Hey, haven’t we heard that term before like in messenger Ribonucleic Acid Activity which steroids cause! Well, this is exactly what this classification of anabolics does; they dramatically increase mRNA activity just like Deca and D-Bol! However, Turkesterone does it non-hormonally! This means you’ll get lots of anabolic activity… but with no testicular shutdown or other steroid related side-effects!
Now, Turkesterone was Dr. Syrov’s main contribution to Mesobolin™ and Dan’s main contribution was another classification of non-hormonal anabolics called Ipriflavones.
