In nearly every bodybuilding competition, there are "rounds" of posing routines. Any of these standard competition poses are probably ones you have practiced in the mirror. The keys to good posing lie in endless practice! Get a technique down for each pose which makes you look your best and fully portrays your physique. I've found some great information from IFBB Bodybuilding Pro Bob Cicherillo.
Juliana Malacarne, while having one of the coolest names out there, also possesses one of the best physiques on this planet. Her abs are total and complete perfection...and the rest obviously not too shabby either! Check out this quck video of Juliana flexing her amazing abs!
Musclemania began in 1991 as bodybuilding’s first and only tour of world class level staged competitions. In it’s first season, future stars like Mike Francois and Delino Dixon were among the regional champions. But, within a couple of years, Musclemania took a bold and challenging step forward by declaring that this exciting event would become a natural event. It would soon become America’s most popular natural bodybuilding competition. Past Champions represent some of the industry’s most respected natural athletes, check out this clip of Delino Dixon from the '99 Musclemania.
At the World Pro Championships in 1983, Makkawy won his third consecutive IFBB show, while Lee Haney placed third in his pro debut that day. In all, Makkawy would place ahead of Haney in five of their eight encounters in 1983. In the 1984 and 1985 Olympias, Haney defeated Makkawy, who then retired from competition for a dozen years.
Larry Scott, “The Legend”, established and personified bodybuilding’s beach Adonis image, and duly became the sport’s Golden Boy after winning the IFBB Mr. America title in 1962 and the IFBB Mr. Universe in 1964. He was the first-ever IFBB Mr. Olympia in the contest’s initial two years of life, 1965 and 1966.
Witnesses still say that the audience reaction to his 1966 IFBB Mr. Olympia entrance was the most vociferous and emotional ever seen at a bodybuilding contest.
His IFBB pro contest history contained a bittersweet moment when he was declared the winner of the Pro Universe in 1975, only to be disqualified later when officials realized he was supposedly on suspension from entering IFBB events. Ironically, his only IFBB pro win would be that same title in 1981. He retired after placing 14th in the 1982 Mr. Olympia.
Tinerino converted to Christianity after some wrong life choices landed him in jail in 1978 and 1979. Today, he and his wife, Anita, continue the ministry that they began in 1979, Dennis Tinerino Ministries, and they are at work on a book, Blood, Sweat and Victory. source: ifbb.com
In 12 successive Mr. Olympia contests (1990-2001), Ray finished in the top five each year – a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that his peers always outweighed him by 50 to 60 pounds.
Check out this clip of Shawn Ray at the 1992 Mr. Olympia competition.
Probably no one in bodybuilding is as associated with a bodypart as much as Tom “Legs” Platz. In his early contests, whatever his overall placing, he frequently won the best legs subdivision. His total IFBB run was a dozen contests.
Tom Platz’s leg development was peerless in his day and has not yet been surpassed. Perhaps his greatest achievement is that he remains the first gentleman of bodybuilding.
Frank Zane was proportioned and defined at under 200 pounds, and had a career that exemplified persistence. His was no meteoric rise to the top. After 10 years of working out, he won the 1968 IFBB Mr. America and IFBB Mr. Universe titles, handing a loss in the Mr. Universe contest to no less a body than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
His career finale was represented by fourth place at the 1983 IFBB Mr. Olympia, check out this video from the 1983 IFBB Mr. Olympia.
Sergio Oliva, “The Myth”, was a member of the Cuban weightlifting team. While the squad was in Jamaica for the Pan American Games in 1962, Sergio defected and made his way to the United States, eventually taking up residence in Chicago. Once there, he became a police officer and briefly continued to compete in lifting events before concentrating on physique exclusively.
Check out this routine of Sergio at the 1984 Mr. Olympia competition.
Chris Dickerson became the first black AAU Mr. America, and by winning the IFBB Mr. Olympia in 1982, at age 43, he became the most senior winner of the sport’s most prestigious contest. Aiding Dickerson throughout his career was 1999 Hall of Famer Bill Pearl. In addition to the 1982 IFBB Mr. Olympia, Dickerson won nine other IFBB pro shows in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, making him one of the most successful competitors of all time.
