Rimonobant is a selective CB1-cannabinoid receptor antagonist. It is an appetite suppressant. As Cannabinoids trigger hunger, the rationale is that by blocking the receptor in the hypothalamus, it will reduce hunger.
Studies have shown that 20mgs taken for 1 year showed dramatic reductions in body weight and waist circumference. Participants in the study also had improved Insulin resistance and gGlucose tolerance, along with lowered Triglyceride levels.
It should be noted, even for research, that there have been side effects with the use of this drug. Nausea and depression are noted, as well as some cases of major depression.
